Our Michael gets his freedom back

A GOOD Samaritan has come to the aid of Poleglass man Michael Bailey who had his vital mobility scooter destroyed by a devastating Halloween night fire.Last week the Andersonstown News reported how a stray firework ignited the outdoor shed where Michael kept his mobility scooter reducing it and the shed to a blackened shell.

Alex recalls when he brought Smokin’ Joe Frazer to Belfast

The WEST Belfast man who brought boxing great Joe Frazier to the city has paid tribute to the former world heavyweight champion who died this week‘Smokin’ Joe’ (67) died on Tuesday after a battle with liver cancer. He was well known for his series of battles with Muhammad Ali, which included handing ‘the Greatest’ his first-ever defeat in the ‘Fight of the Century’ in Madison Square Garden in 1971, and the ‘Thrilla in Manila’ in the Philippines in 1975.

Teen attackers dance on child’s head in vicious sectarian assault

The mother of a North Belfast child has been describing how a gang ‘danced on her son’s head’ during a sectarian attack that left him with footprints embedded in his forehead.

Be nice to each other at charity Mr and Mrs

A charity night will be held in a North Belfast bar later this month in aid of a local suicide awareness charity.The Mr and Mrs competition at the Chester has been organised by local group Laura’s Legacy, set up in memory of Whitewell Road 22-year old Laura Hughes who took her own life in May 2008.

Work begins on sculpture to commemorate McGurk’s dead

Work has begun on a sculpted relief recreation of McGurk’s Bar at the site of the UVF bomb which killed fifteen innocent people forty years ago.December 4 marks the fortieth anniversary of the bombing of the North Queen Street bar and to mark the occasion some of the families who lost loved ones have formed the McGurk’s Memorial Fund for a series of memorials.
