Partially sighted man faces housebound nine weeks

A North Belfast man who has been confined to a wheelchair has hit out at the length of time he has to wait to see an occupational therapist. Cavehill man Malcolm McCormick has recently been discharged from hospital after being diagnosed with arthritis and gout in his leg, a situation that has left him wheelchair bound. The Evelyn Gardens, resident, who is also registered partially blind, has been confined to his flat because the wheelchair he was given by the hospital is too small for his needs.

Tribute has been paid to a Whitewell woman who played a crucial role in the development of her local area following her death through illness last week. Teresa Knowles was on the board of the Greencastle Community Empowerment Partnership, which later became the groundbreaking cross community group Greater Whitewell Community Surgery.

Don’t allow park facilities to slide

The people of Ligoniel have been urged to take ownership of a local park that is currently been refurbished after years of vandalism and misuse. The Tír na Nóg park in the heart of Ligoniel has been the target of vandalism and malicious fires for a number of years. The site has also been used as a gathering point for youths to drink alcohol, take drugs and engage ion other antisocial behaviour.

Failte mór for Irish speaking paramedic

Pupils at a North Belfast Irish medium nursery school gave a failte mór to an Irish speaking paramedic this week. Naíscoil Mhic Reachtain, based in the 174 Trust on the Antrim Road, were visited by Dave Lavery of the Ambulance Service. Dave, who is the only paramedic working in Irish with the gaelscoils, said the children were a delight to work with.
