Family ‘gutted’ that Joby night has been postponed

The family of a North Belfast man who died after falling into the River Lagan in January have said they are gutted that a fundraising night at the Lansdowne Court Hotel to raise money for a trust fund set up in his memory has had to be postponed after the hotel’s sudden closure.

Artwork highlights futility and impact of violence

A new art installation commissioned by the Thomas Devlin Fund and aimed at highlighting the futility of violence has been unveiled in an arts centre in North Belfast. The Permanent Present, by artist Mark Garry, was unveiled at the MAC in St Anne’s Square last week.

Shock at loss of much loved teacher

Staff and pupils at Dominican College, Fortwilliam have paid tribute to teacher Michelle Donaghy, who passed away following a battle with a rare illness. The 33-year-old sociology teacher, who died this week, was praised by the school not just for her teaching ability, but also for her enthusiastic contribution to Dominican College, which also included work in the fields of music and religious education, and as a Co-ordinator of Personal Development for pupils.

Mum forced to leave dying tot

A heartbroken mum who was forced to leave her dying baby to let paramedics in to her New Lodge apartment complex has said the newborn could have been saved had emergency services been able to access their home sooner.
