A VITAL local children’s playgroup that has served the Turf Lodge area for 30 years will close its doors for the last time at the end of the month due to a lack of funding.Holy Trinity Playgroup were told by letter this week that money from the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust would not be made available to them for the coming school year, forcing the closure of the facility and causing job losses.

Bank holiday motorists came in for a surprise on Monday morning (June 4) when a fully-grown swan came causally walking up the Antrim Road. The animal, which had escaped from the pond in the Waterworks, was seen flying low over cars at around 10am.

Venues unveiled for 2013 sporting event

SOME OF South Belfast’s most popular sporting facilities have made the list of venues to be used at the World Police and Fire Games. The games, which will take place from 1st to 10th August 2013, are anticipated to welcome around 10,000 competitors and an additional 15,000 friends and family for the 10-day event and is one of the biggest sporting events in the world.
Zoo day for Ben Magidan kids

Over 2,000 pre-school children, including kids from North Belfast, descended on Belfast Zoo last week for an annual educational visit for early years pupils. The Zoo Days event, organised by young children’s organisation Early Years, included kids from Ben Madigan prep school and Avoca Playgroup in the Oldpark area.
