Family is forced to flee home

A LAGMORE family who fled their home of 17 years to escape anti-social behaviour say they’ve been left “high and dry” by the police and by the Housing Executive.The Blake family have left their Altan Gardens home to restart their lives in Scotland after what that say were three years of threatening and intimidating behaviour directed against them and their neighbours, including verbal and physical abuse, intimidation, the death of a family pet and the delivery of a funeral wreath to their home.

Two surgeries for caitlin (12) are cancelled

THE parents of a 12-year-old West Belfast child in need of urgent spinal surgery say they are angry that her operation has been cancelled – twice. Speaking from their Lagmore Dale home, Lorraine and Paul Cooke told the Andersonstown News that their daughter, Caitlin, who is suffering from the neuro-degenerative condition Rett syndrome, was due to have surgery to correct her curved spine at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children last Monday.

‘Car park’ residents lose patience

RESIDENTS living in the Barrack Street area of West Belfast just yards from the city centre have called on the Department for Regional Development’s Road Service division to get busy on its plans for a residents’ parking scheme in the area.

RUAS members vote on Show’s big mooo-ve

Members of the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society attended a meeting last night (Tuesday) to decide on the future venue for the famous Balmoral Show. Ireland’s largest agricultural and food show has been held at King’s Hall in South Belfast for over 100 years but is expected to be relocated to a 65 acre plot of land at the former Maze prison near Lisburn.

Blackbird bring on the stars

A North Belfast theatre company for children and young people is bringing its latest production to a Newtownabbey stage this week. Blackbird Theatre, who are based in St Gerard’s Community Hall on the Antrim Road, bring Bone Idol to the Courtyard Theatre in Ballyearl tonight (Thursday), tomorrow and Saturday.

Doorman victory for Liam

Ex-prisoners group Coiste na nIarchimí have scored a notable victory after the Security Industry Authority amended its criteria to allow ex-POWs to take up jobs in the licensed trade.The move came after local man Liam Dougan pursued his case through the courts for two years.
