Celtic Football Club has thrown their weight behind the campaign for a young Glengormley boy battling a rare form of cancer. The Hoops manager Neil Lennon and player Joe Ledley were just two from the club who added their support for three year old Oscar Knox the weekend before last. The toddler is battling a highly aggressive form of childhood cancer called neuroblastoma and his family are campaigning to raise the quarter of a million needed to send him abroad for treatment.

On Saturday last the Scottish team travelled to North Belfast to play a match against Cliftonville in Solitude. Team Oscar wristbands were sold at the match, which raised £780 for Oscar’s campaign and over the weekend Celtic player Joe Ledley tweeted a picture of himself wearing the band.

Neill Lennon then tweeted and updated his Facebook page to give details of Oscar’s campaign and how the Celtic family can help support the brave toddler.

Oscar’s dad Stephen said they were delighted with the support shown from the Bhoys.

“We were delighted and really shocked when we saw how much Celtic had got behind us,” he said.

“I couldn’t believe it when Joe Ledley tweeted his picture with the wristband and then Neill Lennon wrote about it too and we had a massive amount of traffic to Oscar’s blog after it. It's amazing.”

Oscar is currently in hospital recovering from an intense amount of chemotherapy. Stephen said he is slowly but surely recovering.

“He is getting on well and is much better than he was,” he said. "We are trying to get him to eat and drink at he minute because he hasn’t been able to and then he might be able to come home soon.”

The family’s moving story on Oscar’s condition and his ongoing treatment is chronicled in a blog, available for viewing at www.oscarknox.blogspot.co.uk, Donations to help reach his goal can be made at www.justgiving.com/teams/weeoscar or in person at the Belfast Media Group’s offices at Hannahstown Hill or on the Antrim Road.
