SF-SDLP war of words over Lisburn equality
LISBURN Sinn Féin Councillor Arder Carson has hit out angrily at the SDLP – including Lisburn Mayor Brian Heading – for what he said was their refusal to support equality measures on Lisburn City Council.Cllr Carson was speaking after a proposal to introduce a scoring matrix to assess future capital build projects was sent back to committee for reconsideration after the SDLP refused to back it.
Charges laid after attack
Two West Belfast men have been remanded in custody following a knife attack at the weekend.Both of the accused appeared in Belfast Magistrates Court on Monday where the court was told a father and son were attacked in their Stewartstown Avenue home by the pair who were armed with a machete, a baton and a knife.
Dunmurry station facing closure
News that one-third of police stations here, including Dunmurry police station, are to close over the next three years has been welcomed by Sinn Féin.The PSNI are recommending 35 stations of their 82 stations are to shut as part of their estate strategy. The move is a bid to meet future policing requirements.
‘Worst policing in years’
A LOCAL political representative has accused the PSNI of “community harassment” after police were called to investigate a suspicious device in the Colin area on Monday.Sinn Féin Councillor Stephen Magennis told the Andersonstown News that the PSNI conducted the “worst type of policing I have seen in years” after a number of people were stopped and searched. Mr Magennis said those searched were mystified locals using the Laurel Glen bar, a bookmakers and surrounding shops.
