This Saturday (September 17) children from across a divided North Belfast park will have the chance to play together at a unique family fun day.

The event at Alexandra Park is designed to help young people from both communities come together and celebrate the park as a shared space.

The park, which opened in 1881, is the only park in Western Europe with a peaceline dividing the park into two separate entities.

The highlight of the Saturday’s event will be a zip-line running between the peaceline.

There will also be bouncy castles, a bungee run, a climbing wall, a magical magician’s show, face painters, balloon modelers, and a pirate treasure hunt with children invited to dress up as pirates and much more.

North Belfast Interface Worker Kate Clarke welcomed the event. “This family fun day will be a great day for everyone to attend and enjoy. We will even have a special guest as the Mayor of Belfast will be attending.”

Sam Cochrane, from North Belfast Community Development and Transition group said: “We have everything for younger children, teenagers and families to enjoy and there will also be entertainment for seniors in Camberwell Fold.”

The day is part of ongoing regeneration work in the park.

Plans include seating, picnic tables and a woodland walk in the lower section of the park, a nature trail path clearance, and a seating area at Alexandra Park Avenue. The event runs from noon-4pm.
