With so much bad publicity around gaa matches at present it is refreshing to write to tell you that the games are alive and well in west belfast. I recently attended an U-16 Championship match at St Paul’s beetween St Brigid’s and Gort na Móna. This game had everything that is good about our sport: hard tackling, great spirit, lovely football, well-taken scores and a good, well-behaved crowd. Indeed, the the St Brigid’s team were warmly applauded by the Gort na Móna supporters at the end of extra time for their part in this spectacle of how the game should be played – hard but fair.
In finishing, I would like to say thank you to the mentors of both teams. Their hard work is clear to be seen.
