LOCAL political representatives have welcomed the installation of a new filter light at the bottom of the Suffolk Road.

The filter light has been operational since Monday and Sinn Féin MLA Sue Ramsey told the Andersonstown News it was badly needed in the area.

“We had asked the previous Department for Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy to come with us on a site visit of the Suffolk and Lenadoon areas. One of the issues was a filter light here at these traffic lights at the bottom of the Suffolk road.

“With the amount of traffic coming up the Stewartstown Road and turning to go up the Suffolk Road, it was something that was needed.

“I’ve talked to a number of residents who are delighted with it because when you were coming up this road you were taking your life in your own hands to try and get onto the Suffolk Road, it is beneficial for both motorists and pedestrians,” added Ms Ramsey.

Sinn Féin Councillor Gerard O’Neill also welcomed the new filter light. “Traffic is increasing on this road almost weekly and this will now enhance road safety for our motorists in the future.”
