Two men have been remanded in custody after being charged with an armed robbery in South Belfast last week.

Gareth Mark Rodgers (22) from Lisadell Place in Bangor and Darren Samuel Reid (26) from Kilwarlin Walk in Belvoir appeared in Newtownards Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (October 8) in connection with a robbery of the Mace convenience store in Drumart Square last Thursday (October 6). The pair were each charged with robbery, threats to kill, possessing an offensive weapon in public and attempted assault after the incident, in which two men entered the shop dressed in white overalls  brandishing a hammer and a knife.

The pair were remanded in custody after having their cases adjourned to another sitting of the magistrates’ court on October 25.
