Billy (74) pools his talents with charity to give something back

A FAMILIAR face to shoppers on the Springfield Road is preparing to do his bit for Marie Curie Cancer Care today (Thursday) at Whiterock Leisure Centre. 74-year-old Billy Clarke, co-owner of Clarke Bros fruit shop, will swim 62 lengths – the equivalent of one mile – to raise much-needed funds for the cancer charity.

Appeal over killing of boy

The family of a teenager gunned down by the British Army in the early years of the Troubles are appealing for witnesses to the killing to come forward. Gerard Gibson was shot in the head in Carrigart Avenue in Lenadoon on July 11, 1972. His family are hoping the investigation into the 16-year-old’s murder will be reopened and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Residents from Hamill Park on the Glen Road contacted Councillor Caoimhín Mac Giolla Mhín for help after they were wakened by the sound of a lorry dumping tons of rubbish on vacant land that backs on to their homes.

Clonard beauty unveiled
