Blackbird bring on the stars

A North Belfast theatre company for children and young people is bringing its latest production to a Newtownabbey stage this week. Blackbird Theatre, who are based in St Gerard’s Community Hall on the Antrim Road, bring Bone Idol to the Courtyard Theatre in Ballyearl tonight (Thursday), tomorrow and Saturday.
House sellers ‘more realistic’

A North Belfast estate agent has said that traders in the housing market are becoming realistic about the value of their homes in the area. The comments come after the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) released its latest housing Market Survey on Tuesday 12 June that recording its lowest reading on house prices since November 2010.
Homeless families delight at handing over of keys

The keys to an 11 home social housing development in North Belfast were handed over to their delighted owners last week. The 11 new houses have been built in the Stanhope Street area of Carrickhill and the new owners were given the keys last Wednesday morning.
Zoo day for Ben Magidan kids

Over 2,000 pre-school children, including kids from North Belfast, descended on Belfast Zoo last week for an annual educational visit for early years pupils. The Zoo Days event, organised by young children’s organisation Early Years, included kids from Ben Madigan prep school and Avoca Playgroup in the Oldpark area.
Stormont suicide group fails to meet in 18 months
A LEADING suicide prevention worker has slammed a panel of Stormont ministers, appointed to an ‘emergency taskforce’ designed to tackle the suicide crisis here, after revelations that they have failed to meet since January 2011. The Ministerial Co-ordination Group on Suicide Prevention was set up in 2006 at the launch of the ‘Protect Life’ strategy whose aim was to significantly reduce soaring suicide rates by 2011.
