Big-hearted Celtic FC players have met fans in North Belfast at an event organised by a local football club. The Hoops’ stars Anthony Stokes, Paddy McCourt, Mark Wilson and Niall McGinn were the guests of Ardoyne’s Shamrock FC, and arrived at the club to present end-of-season awards to local players last Saturday evening.

Another barracks gets social housing go ahead
Social housing is to be built on the site of a former North Belfast barracks that closed two years ago. The homes are to be built by Fold Housing Association on the site of Oldpark Barracks. The former police station closed in 2010. The housing association is to built ten homes on the site.
Flagship restaurant still going strong despite closure of hotel
ONE of Belfast’s oldest Chinese restaurants will not be affected by its owners’ decision to close a city hotel due to turbulent economic conditions. The Welcome restaurant on Stranmillis Road first opened its doors in 1973, and is owned by the Wong family, whose Welcome Group also owns the Lansdowne Hotel in North Belfast, which shut last week with the loss of up to 35 jobs
‘Housing inequalities further entrenched by Girdwood’
A respected human rights activist and housing campaigner said this week the Girdwood plans will continue to entrench the North Belfast housing crisis. Inez McCormack, chair of the Participation and the Practice of Rights (PPR) Project said with more than 2400 people on the North Belfast housing list, most of whom are Catholic
High rise mum pleads for new home
A North Belfast couple who have been forced to live out of one bedroom in an eleventh floor tower block flat with their two young children have pleaded with the Housing Executive to find them a home. Nikita Geer and her partner Barry McGuinness have been sharing a flat on the eleventh floor of Cú Chulainn House in the New Lodge with a family member as well as the couple’s eight week old baby son and 14 month old daughter.
Relief as hotel owners vow to refund customers
A North Belfast couple who were left devastated after the shock closure of a local hotel eight weeks before they were due to marry at the venue have spoken of their relief after the news they are to get their money back from the owners
