Marian must be released now

RENEWED calls for the immediate release of West Belfast republican Marian Price have been made after local parties met with the Secretary of State and the Minister for Justice this week. A Sinn Féin delegation, including West Belfast MLA Jennifer McCann, met with Justice Minister David Ford on Monday when they called Ms Price’s continued imprisonment “an affront to natural justice”.

SDLP leader Alasdair McDonnell is one hundred per cent right in his protestations to Secretary of State Owen Paterson in regard to the cases of Marian Price and Gerry McGeough. Those who suggest that because the SDLP man is diametrically opposed to the politics of both Ms Price and Mr McGeough he shouldn’t demand they be treated fairly don’t understand the very concept of justice being blind.

Pensioner targeted in phone scam loses out to the tune of £2,000

OLDER people in the community are being urged to be on their guard after an elderly pensioner was conned out of almost £2,000 in a phone scam. The pensioner, who resides in the Andersonstown Fold, was contacted by a person claiming to be from the Ministry of Justice and informed she was to receive £7,000 but needed to pay £1,600 for tax purposes.

Apartment U-turn welcomed

A LOCAL political representative has welcomed a decision by the Planning Service to refuse permission for four new blocks of apartments in Andersonstown. SDLP Councillor Tim Attwood said the decision was good news for residents of Stockmans Crescent who had been opposing the proposal since its submission in 2010.
