Husband and wife on murder charge
A husband and wife have been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a West Belfast man.Charles Stephen Valliday, 40, and Julie-Ann Valliday, 35, of Powerscourt Place in South Belfast, are charged with murdering Christopher Mackin, who was shot dead near the city centre a week ago.
Pub trade vital to shops’ survival
BUSINESSES in South Belfast are relying on local pubs to help stay afloat, local councillors have been told. Belfast City Council recently heard from Pubs of Ulster CEO Colin Neil, who stressed the financial difficulties of pubs right across the North, and how many were in or on the brink of, administration, and how this could impact on neighbouring shops.
Mast opposition gathers pace again
PROPOSED ‘upgrades’ to a mobile telephone mast in a South Belfast street have revived opposition to the structure a decade after it first caused controversy. The mast at the junction of Annadale Drive and Annadale Embankment is used by phone networks Orange and T-Mobile as part of their wider South Belfast coverage.
