SQUINTER was in Moneymore with the big guy to attend Saturday’s vintage car rally at the National Trust’s Springhill House. A good day was had by all, but as usual at such events the catering was not what you’d call epicurean. And with all that fresh air and bejasus accents putting an edge the appetite, we decided we’d eat in Magherafelt on the way home.

Tweeting from tree but it’s not a bird
A campaign to give local people ownership of a North Belfast wood has taken a step forward with the set up of a unique Twitter account for a tree. A horse chestnut tree in Throne Wood, between the Antrim Road and Whitewell Road, has been given its own Twitter account @HorseChestnut1. The tree began tweeting on the micro blogging site last month.

When Squinter read that there’s a play starting at the Lyric soon called Molly Wobbly’s Tit Factory, at first he thought it was a homage to bare-bellied taxi drivers (see story left). But then he asked about the office and learned that it’s actually a musical.

Bellybusting dress code saved the day
If there’s a more unedifying sight on the planet than a man of a certain age out and about in the sunshine in his bare belly then Squinter has yet to see it. Young males routinely take their shirts off when the sun comes out, not sure why – probably something hormonal. Certainly, Squinter never missed an opportunity to divest himself of his panda-collar shirt in the 70s and 80s.
